I have an 89% win rate over 18 trades, with a 27% profit. How many trades should I do before going live?
So I've been doing some scalping on pairs with high spreads in cryptocurrencies previously with great success, but I finally figured I'd give forex a real shot (was into it a few years ago, but didn't go live). Last time I scalped in crypto, I had 14 out of 14 successful trades, but only about a 10% profit. I haven't heard about anyone scalping the way I do in crypto, but I find my method extremely reliable when I just find the right pair to trade. This is just to say I have some experience with trading, but I'm by no means an expert. Now, I've been scalping the past few days with a paper trading account on TradingView. I've mostly been trading the US Currency Index, S&P 500 and some crypto pairs thus far. I'm scalping on the 1m time frame using bollinger bands and looking at trends, price action and stoch RSI for confirmation on my entries. I started out with 100k a few days ago and first doubled my account to around 200k and then did a 1,3 mill trade, but I was running like 500-1000 USD per pip, so if the market turned against me, I'd be liquidated real quick. While the trades were good, I figured I was disconnected from the risk I was taking because it isn't real money, and I wanted to try doing more conservative and realistic trades, so I reset the account yesterday. Edit (more trades done): Since the account was reset, I've done 45 trades where I've lost on two of them. If my math serves me right, that's about an 95.5% win rate. I'm up around 77.5% currently. I did lose 1500 on one trade, but that's because I by mistake placed a sell order when I was supposed to add another buy order double down on my long position, so I'm not counting that one in (but I'm not counting the 1500 I lost as profit either). I have a very strict strategy I'm sticking to when doing these scalps. I realize 45 trades is not a huge sample size, but that is kinda why I'm asking: How many trades should I do on the paper trading account before I should run it live with confidence? For anyone who might be interested, here's my account history: https://imgur.com/a/zuRSWwd Edit: here's 6 trades more: https://imgur.com/a/CmbyU6n Edit2: some more trades: https://imgur.com/a/q9xqVyq Edit3: I think we're up to 45 trades now: https://imgur.com/a/CsWZEN7
Boa tarde, eu tenho 19 anos e quero começar a investir dinheiro.
I was admitted to Purdue for CS (I'm the class of 21') and I'm interested in the high frequency trading field. If I want to minor in something that will help me in that field and not add an incredible amount of work to my workload, what would you recommend and what classes do you recommend I take to do so? Thanks.
Me and couple of my friends made a breakdown of what AP Class you should take and why. This does not cover all but will cover a good amount to give a good idea to you guys. AP Calculus AB - This class is a course for one semester of College Calculus. If you are in a position where you have taken Pre-Calculus but knows that you are not the strongest at math, then go for it. This class is pretty slow paced. This is best for non-STEM majors. AP Calculus BC - This class is a course worth two semesters of College Calculus. This class is basically Calc AB + 2 Units. If you are going to be a STEM major or is confident with your math skills, then this is best suited for you. AP Statistics - This class is not very difficult, as the knowledge you really need in this class is up to Algebra 2. This class is calculator and writing/analysis heavy however, the concepts are simple and as long as you know the formulas and calculate basically probability, and write conclusions, this is a good choice. Also recommended for both non-STEM and STEM Majors. AP U.S. Government and Politics - This class is about the history of the government structures of our country and court cases that shape our current politics. Although easy to self-study, you should be able to write an FRQ well and analyze important documents and court cases. This year's test had many mixed results, so don't think this class is SUPER easy. It's not the most difficult, but can be challenging. AP Macroeconomics - If you have never taken a class related to economics, it may be a struggle in the beginning. However, once you learn about the basic fundamentals and principles of economics, it is not too bad. Macroeconomics is the study of the whole economic market, compared to individual stores and market of Microeconomics. You will learn about Supply and Demand and so much more. You will need to learn how to use and draw graphs and change the graphs given a different situations. It's not super difficult if you study, but the foreign exchange market (Forex market) might be the most challenging. AP English Language and Composition - This class is basically ACT or SAT Grammar sections. If you are good at grammar and are solid at writing analytical essays, this could be your class. But remember that fire-ass sounding essays does not equal a 4 or a 5. You must follow the CollegeBoard's rubric. AP Environmental Science - One of the easier classes to self-study and is about the ecology and health of our globe. It focuses about global climate change and factors, habitats, and so much more. If you're into environmental policies or climate change around the world, this is a class for you. AP Psychology - This class can also be self studied. It's all term based and if you can memorize vocab very well and know how to apply them in a FRQ (on the AP Test), you will get a 4/5. AP Computer Science A - This class is about Java Programming. A good class if interested in majoring in CS or related majors in college. If you have taken APCSP or have prior coding knowledge, you should take it. If not, but is interested, suggested to look on free tutorials on youtube. It is JAVA programming, not JS. AP Japanese/Chinese Language and Culture - Not gonna lie if you're not fluent or study a lot you're gonna be in a big disadvantage compared to fluent people. Knowing how to write characters, read characters, speak properly, and use of correct grammar is key. This is difficult, but practice can definitely help. AP Music Theory - If you have been playing an instrument for many years and know the note structures, scales, and other musical theory components, you should take this class. AP US History - If you are interested in the history of our country, this is a class for you. However, there are many things covered in this class, many different periods of time. If you are a solid DBQ writer and are looking into major in History, this is a class for you. However, I heard this class is article and textbook reading heavy. Tbh all classes can be self-studied but the best APs to self study up on the list are: - AP Calculus AB (BC if taken AB prior) - AP Statistics - AP U.S. Government and Politics - AP Environmental Science - AP Psychology - AP Japanese / Chinese Language and Culture (If fluent don't study lol) There is more we have but for now this should be good. :) PM if questions.
Binary Options Review; Best Binary Options Brokers
Binary Options Review; Best Binary Options Brokers We have compared the best regulated binary options brokers and platforms in May 2020 and created this top list. Every binary options company here has been personally reviewed by us to help you find the best binary options platform for both beginners and experts. The broker comparison list below shows which binary trading sites came out on top based on different criteria. You can put different trading signals into consideration such as using payout (maximum returns), minimum deposit, bonus offers, or if the operator is regulated or not. You can also read full reviews of each broker, helping you make the best choice. This review is to ensure traders don't lose money in their trading account. How to Compare Brokers and Platforms In order to trade binary options, you need to engage the services of a binary options broker that accepts clients from your country e.g. check US trade requirements if you are in the United States. Here at bitcoinbinaryoptionsreview.com, we have provided all the best comparison factors that will help you select which trading broker to open an account with. We have also looked at our most popular or frequently asked questions, and have noted that these are important factors when traders are comparing different brokers:
What is the Minimum Deposit? (These range from $5 or $10 up to $250)
Are they regulated or licensed, and with which regulator?
Can I open a Demo Account?
Is there a signals service, and is it free?
Can I trade on my mobile phone and is there a mobile app?
Is there a Bonus available for new trader accounts? What are the Terms and
Who has the best binary trading platform? Do you need high detail charts with technical analysis indicators?
Which broker has the best asset lists? Do they offer forex, cryptocurrency, commodities, indices, and stocks – and how many of each?
Which broker has the largest range of expiry times (30 seconds, 60 seconds, end of the day, long term, etc?)
How much is the minimum trade size or amount?
What types of options are available? (Touch, Ladder, Boundary, Pairs, etc)
Additional Tools – Like Early closure or Metatrader 4 (Mt4) plugin or integration
Do they operate a Robot or offer automated trading software?
What is Customer Service like? Do they offer telephone, email and live chat customer support – and in which countries? Do they list direct contact details?
Who has the best payouts or maximum returns? Check the markets you will trade.
The Regulated Binary Brokers Regulation and licensing is a key factor when judging the best broker. Unregulated brokers are not always scams, or untrustworthy, but it does mean a trader must do more ‘due diligence’ before trading with them. A regulated broker is the safest option. Regulators - Leading regulatory bodies include:
CySec – The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (Cyprus and the EU)
FCA – Financial Conduct Authority (UK)
CFTC – Commodity Futures Trading Commission (US)
FSB – Financial Services Board (South Africa)
ASIC – Australia Securities and Investment Commission
There are other regulators in addition to the above, and in some cases, brokers will be regulated by more than one organization. This is becoming more common in Europe where binary options are coming under increased scrutiny. Reputable, premier brands will have regulation of some sort. Regulation is there to protect traders, to ensure their money is correctly held and to give them a path to take in the event of a dispute. It should therefore be an important consideration when choosing a trading partner. Bonuses - Both sign up bonuses and demo accounts are used to attract new clients. Bonuses are often a deposit match, a one-off payment, or risk-free trade. Whatever the form of a bonus, there are terms and conditions that need to be read. It is worth taking the time to understand those terms before signing up or clicking accept on a bonus offer. If the terms are not to your liking then the bonus loses any attraction and that broker may not be the best choice. Some bonus terms tie in your initial deposit too. It is worth reading T&Cs before agreeing to any bonus, and worth noting that many brokers will give you the option to ‘opt-out’ of taking a bonus. Using a bonus effectively is harder than it sounds. If considering taking up one of these offers, think about whether, and how, it might affect your trading. One common issue is that turnover requirements within the terms, often cause traders to ‘over-trade’. If the bonus does not suit you, turn it down.
Moving on.

I joined this thread a few weeks ago. I thought it was a place where real traders hangout and actually learn from each other. Learning forex is not just strategy and psychology. I've learnt people here got a fixed state of mind about risk management and money management. Whereas I have been consistent with 10%, I have friends who trade 20%, 30% and as little as 5%. Some who take the whole move and others who take whatever ago. I would ask why, and they all reply,"My risk management." What could be a learning moment always turns into an exchange of nasty conversation. My very memorable "nemesis" who told me I need to be saved, I'm too far gone, etc, also bragged he has been trading profitably for 2 years. He recently posted how he is depressed about trading and is actually afraid of the markets. hasn't trade for months now and when he did, it was only for 5 months. Most of them are computer science and Finance students. They are quick to tell every newbie how they need such background to be succesful taders. Here's the kicker. Only one trader in my circle has a C.S background. All the others have A Bachelors of Obsession and Perseverance. Of course there are very few cool finance and CS students here. No beef. At the end of the day, I'm only human. And these conversation, at the very least trigger a conversation. At the most annoys me. I know scalpers and swingers and I treat them equally. at the end of the day they are all securing the bag. I'm nice to them, so at the end of the day they drop me a nugget.
The dude who turns 200 to 250k in under a month. "Dude, Icmarkets is great. but after opening with 200$, split that into ten accounts. and if you go bust then you have only lost 20."
A 100 lots guy,"if you loose 3 trades in a row, go back to demo."
my homeboy rockstar trader, I would call him up like yo I just had the biggest week ever, I.m 50% up. and he's like, withdraw and go treat yourself. It took me 2 years before my first withdrawal. you've made it in a year. And, I'm like," but I'm trynna compound.."
And he's like,"At the very least open an extra account."
These look like simple remarks but mix em with your strategy and they take you a step further, control greed, give you a chance to stop and refine your strategy, Give you a chance to come back after a blown account, I could go on and on. there is so much I've learnt even from mediocre traders with flashy lifestyle on IG. Now I just mentioned a guy who trades the 1 min and make 80-100+% per trade. instead of someone asking me how's that possible? Have you seen his Myfxbook? No He went on about how that's pure bullshit. Now my personality trait, I would wanna answer him that I have actually seen his myfxbook and that is how i actually keep track of each %age. So basically this thread has consumed my time online and offline and in some way affected my trading. I remember closing a trade at 10 pips profit just so my account would be a solid 30 something %, when I was positive that the trade had higher chances of reaching 45 pips, I just didnt wanna risk the propbable chance of it reversing to my SL. so that i could sshot and post it to the few haters and non believers that I had earned in this thread. Now look at this, With the cute sshot I was 30%+ up, but without it and the haters, I would've been about 70% up that. Whereas I had myself and my few trading friends who I actually reach out to ask questions. now I had a bunch of people to convince that there actually is money in forex. Even when I'm not online I find myself thinking about this thread. Wanting to come online to answer a few question or just read some posts. I have caught myself checking this page first before starting my backtesting. we all know how a quick check can turn into minutes on the internet. I'd come online and see a "pro trader" telling a newbie how he needs a Finance or C.S background to succeed in this field, if not just foget about it. And these replies are always delivered with a touch of arrogance that makes me go like wtf?! and i would jump in and reply. More power to those who can manage being apart of a toxic group. I have managed to help a few who reached out to me from this group but that's that. As for me I can manage the negative energy and trade and run a super productive life. Anyways, I'm one strike away from a perma ban for posting profits. So...yeah
Hey all, I’m very new to the community. As someone that’s a CS major in college right now, when a family member showed me his work in forex, I was immediately interested in the EA functionality aspect. I do have one question, however. I notice that the mql4.com/indicators list is missing indicators (obviously they won’t all be there) but is there a way to create my own? For instance, is there a way I could add a Keltner Channel indicator to my EA (which isn’t on the indicators list) by somehow accessing the code of the keltner channel indicator itself? Any help would be greatly appreciated guys! thanks!
Introduction Just thought it might be interesting to discuss the thought that one day the CS market will die. With real-life markets, there is the expectation that companies, currencies, and commodities will continue to be relevant/traded for decades. This means that they can be invested in for long term gains. Can the same be said for the CS:GO market? The prices in the market are determined by a multitude of factors, but the most important of which is simply the demand/relevancy of CSGO. I personally don't think it will happen for at least a few more years. But seriously think, will there be a market for CS items in 10 years? 20 years? It just interests me because I always see people say they're 'holding items for the long term' but how does that translate when the market lifespan could be finite. _ About me (if you care) I've been playing CSGO on and off since my late teens and started investing since Cologne 2014. Back then I thought a Katowice sticker selling for more than £10 was a joke. For transparency, The main investments I hold are Cologne 2014, Dreamhack 2014, Katowice 2015, Sticker capsule 2s and Winter offensive cases. All bought during their respective steam sales. Most of my investments have been cashed out recently (thank you China) with my inventory only being around 20% of what it once was. IRL I'm involved in financial management for work but I do not regularly trade on the forex/stock market. My knowledge of markets and trends is from parts of my professional qualification and personal experience. _ What would be the cause of the markets death? There are a few factors that could cause CS GO and the demand for items to fall to near zero:
Slow decline in player numbers - As the game ages, the player base could move on to other games/commitments or Valve could put out bad updates or. So far this isn't the case since the player base is still growing.
Fast decline in player numbers - A sudden drop due to a new game with its own market. This would cause a mass migration of cash/assets from one game to the other.
Market/Game glitches - As seen with the recent TF 2 bug, the risk of holding virtual items is high. The incompetence of a developer could cause your items to be worthless overnight.
Legislation (cases) - Quite simply an unforeseen change to loot box mechanics could drastically change the way items themselves are generated.
Legislation (cashing out) - Valve or other third parties could enforce stricter rules of sites like Bitskins that cut-off the liquidity of items. We've seen some crackdown of this type in the trade bans of betting sites and 7-day restriction.
_ What are the factors that could extend the longevity of the market? These are quite obviously the opposite of the above factors.
CS maintains its popularity and entices new players either with new updates or marketing - We can see one example of this with the recent push for CS in China. I know its a stretch but could we one day see CS blow up in India?
CS Cements itself in the industry as the gold standard for shooters and transcends the limits of time, kind of the same as above - Whether this is by maintaining a competitive scene or by pushing updates, including graphical updates. We can already see that the game has become F2P which means it has a long potential life.
If we avoid any of the negative factors.
When do you think the market will die? (Or will it stay around forever?)
Do you think it will be a dramatic crash or a slow death?
Considering the sizeable risk involved with the market, shouldn't investors adopt a prudent approach to cashing out profits? Eg regularly cashing out at different points to mitigate the inherent market risk?
Thanks for reading and I'd be interested to read other peoples thoughts.
How to derive historical financial data for forex instrument backtesting
Hello, If you believe backtesting strategies for forex major currency pairs is unhopeful please leave a comment with an explanation. I'm a CS major at Columbia with internships in back office global bank infrastructure positions here in NY and have great interest in trading algorithmically because I can't trust my behavior to enter trades, among other obvious reasons. I would like to know what the best sources are for obtaining historical data (OHLCV, etc) for (forex) backtesting purposes. Is a large excel file used in practice, or are historical prices derived via API's? Hey guys, i'm building a computer for gaming and streaming professionally. So far I brought: - Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory - 66CHF - Corsair iCUE 220T RGB Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case - 89CHF What I don't like, a bit small. What I like, very good airflow, atx mb, 3 good fans included and tempered glass. - Corsair RMx (2018) 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply - 89CHF - BenQ XL2546 24.5" 1920x1080 240 Hz Monitor - 369CHF - Logitech Pro X Gaming 7.1 Channel Headset - 112CHF I choose this Headphones due to sound quality and mainly, microphone. (At the beggining I don't want to spend extra money on a fancy microphone and I honestly think this is really good for the price) (The prices are in CHF due of me being in Switzerland. I can buy hardware in france, spain or Portugal. I'm from Portugal and there's where I go once I get my savings a bit up and my pc built. I will buy a second monitor for forex and streaming before I leave Switzerland or when I arrive Portugal, it depends on promotions really.) The main games are fps. I'm currently confused which path I want to choose. I really enjoy streaming but would love to join a esports team. I'm very good at CS:GO and PUBG. I'm also decent at League of Legends. I'm not intersted in having an additional computer for streaming.
Everything above, or that I arledy brought (Except for the monitor), can be changed. This is what I have in mind.
- CPU: ryzen 9 3900x. So I can keep up with the 240hz and have a good stream quality. - GPU: Between 2070 or 2080 super's. I want to save the biggest amount of money, but also want to have a good amount of frames, I'm not going for the 2080ti, i don't think it's worth it. Super's in Switzerland are basicly the same price as regulars so you know... Storage - SSD: Corsair MP510 960 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive or Crucial P1, the difference is 20CHF in here. - HDD: 2TB Barracuda 7200rpm - MotherBoard: I honestly don't know. I was thinking in going with a 470x, but if I ask at the computer store for them to update my bios, I'm afraid it will be hella expensive, since everything that means handworking in Switzerland is (due to high salaries). Coolers - CPU: I don't think I need a cpu cooler, i don't want to overclock, but there will be days that I might game for like 12hrs, the average should be 10hrs per day. What do you think? - Fans: I'll add 3 fans. I don't know which ones honestly, noise isn't much of a problem, but I don't want it to be to loud. Just budget friendly, not really into more RGB. I don't mind spending a little bit more if I can get more durability, less long term problems, etc. It's my first total computer build, I've installed Ram and a GPU before, so any advice is very well welcomed. Have a Nice Day and Merry Xmas!
Seller: Vicky Payment Assistance: Zendrian Global Trading Shipping Agent: Zendrian Global Trading
January 5 – Inquire the availability of the shoes and its price in CNY from Vicky’s WhatsApp. January 6 – Paid Vicky through Zendrian’s payment assistance. January 7 – Vicky gave the QCs through WhatsApp January 8 – GLed the pair then Vicky shipped immediately that day. January 10 – Received by Zendrian warehouse in China January 17 – Zendrian told me that the package is now available for pickup.
Verdict Seller: My first pair from her. Sobrang bilis niyang mag-reply sa mga inquiry ko. Straightforward lang naman transaction namin. Tinanong ko kung available, price and to be shipped domestically. After that, siya na nagtatanong ng info needed for those. Gaganda ng PK BASF niya imagine GL agad first QC. One more thing, nakadouble box nung sinend niya kay Zendrian. I would love to buy again from her in the future. Payment Assistance: Mas mura rate ni Zendrian Global Trading kesa SWK. Anyway, mabagal mag-reply and if possible dapat lahat nagawa mo na kung makikipagtransaction ka sakanila like nahulog mo na sa BDO account yung bayad mo and nabigay mo na Alipay account ng seller mo. Since sila palang naman available na murang payment assistance, I would definitely use their payment assistance again in the future unless may bago silang contender. Shipping Agent: As you can see, almost 7 days bago ko nakuha yung package ko. Medyo pricey with average shipping time and a bad CS. Yung iba 1.5kg yung 1 pair nila sakin 2kg (Yeezys and double boxed din), seems like inconsistent yung weight calculation nila. Paswertehan nalang siguro kung maka1.5 ka or 2kg per pair. Anyway, with this experience, I will not use them again as shipping agent.
Price Calculations: Shoes – 520CNY Payment Assistance – 7.3946 (BDO Forex) x 1.015 x 520 = 3,903 + 200 = 4,103 PHP Shipping – 800 PHP / kg x 2 kg = 1,600 PHP + 244 PHP (Lalamove) = 1,844 PHP Total = 5,947 PHP
January 6 – Order made in Ytaopal website January 7 – Ytaopal paid the seller (BMLIN) January 10 – Received by Ytaopal. Gave me their free QCs January 13 – Shipped by Ytaopal to SWK’s warehouse in China January 15 – Received by SWK in China January 17 – SWK told me that the package is now available for pickup
Verdict Shoes: Ganda ng shoes. It feels great on-foot. However, may mga imperfections lang siya like hindi magkapantay yung stripes and yung pagka-angle niya sa likod ng sapatos. Pero for the price, good quality na siya. You get what you pay for naman. Ytaopal: Limited yung CS nila which is available only from 9:30AM to 6PM. Also, it’s not available ng lunchtime 12:00PM to 1:00PM. Napakadaling mag-order sa site nila dahil din siguro sa gumawa ng guide (thanks to you!). Anyway, ayoko lang medyo panget yung packing process nila dahil siguro libre lang. Nilagay lang nila yung bawat sapatos sa isang bubble sleeves (4 bubble sleeves in total) then with outer layer na plastic. (for reference) Their CS is not that bad and not that great, but they can do things naman. Like nagrequest ka for QCs this day, expect it na makukuha mo na the next day. Anyway, when it comes to purchasing sa Yupoo, I’ll use Ytaopal again dahil mababa lang fee nila (4%). Shipping Agent: Halos same CS quality lang sila ni Zendrian but wow, grabe 2 days lang nasa Pinas na agad yung package ko. Yung package in good condition naman, walang sira or whatsoever. Anyway, I would use them again in my next haul dahil napakamura ng rate nila compared kay Zendrian kahit na medyo inconsistent yung shipping time.
Price Calculations: Shoes – 180CNY (Static Reflective) & 160CNY (Trueform) = 340CNY Domestic Shipping – 30CNY (BMLIN to Ytaopal) + 55CNY (Ytaopal to SWK) = 85CNY Ytaopal’s Additional Fees – 340 + 85 = 425CNY x 1.04 = 442CNY Payment Assistance – 7.3946 (BDO Forex) x 1.015 x 442CNY = 3,318 PHP + 133 = 3,451 PHP Shipping – 580 PHP / kg x 1.5 kg = 870 PHP + 132 PHP (Lalamove) = 1,002 PHP Total = 3,451 + 1,002 = 4,453 PHP

Looking to get into algorithmic trading, need some help with markets/finance
Hey how's it going everyone. I'm looking to get into algorithmic trading and was wondering what a good way to start was. I've checked out quantstart for example but it seems extensive. A bit about my background first, I have a BS in EE CS from a top UC school and I also work as an software engineering intern right now at a well known Fintech company. My backgrounds pretty heavy in CS + EE and mathematics as well and I'm excited to apply my skills towards trading and algorithms where I can also use my software development skills. I also have an offer for a winter internship as a quant dev/analyst a small fund on wallstreet. I'm also deciding on an MFE/CS/applied econ math program next fall or spring as deadlines are coming up. Desire: I would like to understand more about algorithmic trading platforms and of course to begin trading, I'd like to learn how to apply my background in ML to markets as well but my main goal is starting slow. I want to do this before my internship begins. I've also began using robinhood and it's alot of fun, I'd love to play around with their api. My questions: 1) My main questions pertains towards the finance side. I don't have trading experience and would like to learn within the next three months. I'd like to learn more about backtesting and begin simulated algorithmic trading with fictitious money before moving on to actual money. Any tips on this? 2) What platform should I look into to learn more about trading, I'm thinking about equities first and then looking into something like forex or even crypto. Unless a better suggestion you have in mind. I'm mainly interested in commission free and no fees, if that even exists. I know robinhood does this but is there a desktop based platform? 3) I'm curious about the inner working of algorithmic trading. Are most people using just an autonomous algorithm they run that connects to an exchange/broker? Or are most people building their own exchanges and testing on both? 4)If there's any good articles or guides/videos you've seen that are applicable that would be great.
Hey guys I need some help with a problem. I feel so bad about how I’ve behaved ever since I left high school. I finished in 2015. I was the fucking star student, frequently number one. But I joked with my life and education after high school. This was partly because I was fixed on my dream of one day playing pro basketball. I was not even thinking about going to university like everyone else. The only thing I was thinking of was playing basketball and how I could join the NBA one day. With the work I was putting in (or not putting in) and at my age, I wonder how I possibly thought I could get there. I mean, I had zero structure or discipline. I was playing FIFA with my cousin till 2 am and waking up at noon. I hardly had any structure to my training: going to the gym irregularly without any goal, playing pick up at a local court (and thinking this was enough training). In high school, I only thought of two possible careers: Medicine or pro basketball. Naturally, I applied for the former. I got accepted and was to join in 2016. However, I was not so excited about this. My mind was still on basketball. I felt I could still make it to the NBA if I just tried harder. September 2016 came and I joined Med school. But reluctantly as I still wished to be playing basketball. All along my plan was: “Okay, I need to keep on training (the fake training I spoke of earlier with nowhere near the intensity or structure needed to even make a high school team in USA) so I can become good enough. Then I’ll do SAT’s, join a college abroad and join their basketball team.” It sounded great in my head, but the odds were infinitely stacked against me. Especially with no support (understandably) from my family, it would be very hard for my dream to come true. So anyway, the short of it was I joked with Med school coz I did not really want to be there. I came late for classes, did not do my 1st sem exams and was generally withdrawn. I was just thinking; “I’m going to join the NBA so why am I wasting my time here. After 4 months I left, planning to continue training for basketball and working out. I did just that, but the pressure kept on mounting. My parents kept on asking me what I wanted to do. I did not want to say, “All I really want to do is play basketball.” I felt like they would (as they previously had) not support that at all. I also did not want to be embarrassed if I failed. While I was still in medical school, my mother suggested that I apply to law school as it is “general”. So when asked that fateful question and feeling like I had actually messed up by playing with med school, I simply responded “ I want to do Law”. This would appease my parents, but I never really wanted to Law either. Reluctantly, I applied to and got accepted into Law at Strathmore University. All the while I was thinking: “Man I shouldn’t be here!” I kinda felt forced to be there by my Dad (the day before I was to join he gave me a talk which basically ended in “You WILL go tomorrow”.) I figured: IF only I could make some money then I could be free to do whatever I please. I started looking for any and every way to make cash. That’s when I stumbled upon Forex trading and got obsessed. Long story short, it flopped. Around Dec 2018, a year and a half into my trading journey, I realized I would need to have more stability and not rely on trading to make a living. I quit Now I am two years through my degree. My grades are average ( C ). I have missed the whole first sem of my third year because I seriously did not plan to come back after that 2nd year. I had planned to transfer to do Financial Engineering (this was because of my tango with Forex; I thought my interest in markets meant I should do a degree in Finance) but after attending 2 classes I felt like this was a mistake. There I was, the only 21-year-old in a class of 18 year old's (now that I write it down the age difference does not seem big at all). But I felt so bad and alone. I left and tried to go back to Law school. I had missed a week of the 1st semester and so I was rather lost. I was not attending classes seriously and that’s when I decided I needed a break. I applied for Academic Leave and it was approved. Now I feel like that was a big mistake. I feel like I should have just graduated with this degree and went on to study something else I liked at Master’s level or get a 2nd degree. Anyway, here I am now trying to get back into the 2nd sem and figure out how I can finish this degree. I am set to graduate in 2022 while my peers from high school graduate next year. Should I switch to another degree or try and see this one through. My main option is to drop this one right now and go to SA for my degree. I was thinking CS and Math, Electrical Eng or Business. Do you think it’s a good idea to go abroad for an undergrad? Should I just slog through and get this degree even if my grades are poor and I don’t really care for the Law?
24 y/o looking for the best option to invest my savings to make good money rightaway.
Hello folks, so I have more $15k+ in savings and I don't feel good about it. I'm always thinking on a good way to invest it. To tell more about myself; I live and work as a cs graduate in a 3rd world country with little expenses and I would love to receive nice instant returns, I hate waiting :(. There's a nice option in my country where I buy a car and rent it as an Uber. The renter would pay around $170 weekly but it will have some legal implications or issues in a future. For example if the renter steals the car or crashes it. So it could be a headache. Other options I have been thinking of are: crypto, Forex and maybe real estate. Problem with real estate is that I live in a 3rd world market, have probably little money to start and got no mentors.
